Tropical Storm Oscar forms in Atlantic Ocean

The storm does not pose threat to Florida, U.S. Additional strengthening is expected, and Oscar could become a hurricane after transitioning to a tropical storm later this weekend or early next week.

The Tropical Storm Oscar has got upgraded into a Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 120 kmph. The Atlantic hurricane season ends on November 30, but it usually peaks on September 10-11.

The storm had top sustained winds of 65 miles per hour (100 kph).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 970 mb (28.65 inches).

Oscar is the 15th named storm this season, the 7th storm to be subtropical.

Oscar is forecast to continue to strengthen through Monday night, then gradually weaken in the open Atlantic.
