David Fisher, Facebook's vice president of business and marketing partnerships, in August this year had announced that WhatsApp was planning to bring ads to the platform but it was unclear of how or where to put them.

"The feature appears mainly developed for WhatsApp Business, but some references were found in the normal WhatsApp app too", said the website. The Linked Accounts option will be located under your profile settings.

Facebook says that 450 million of WhatsApp's user base are now using the Status page. He also said that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's vision of monetizing WhatsApp with ads led to his departure. We're guessing that we'll probably start seeing ads in the Status feature come 2019.

WhatsApp, the Facebook-owned messaging app with 1.5 billion users worldwide, will start showing ads after being ad-free for years, according to India's Economic Times.

These changes were confirmed by WhatsApp Vice President Chris Daniels in an interview. "Businesses pay to send those messages", said Daniels via India Times. With this move, WhatsApp will be another source of ad revenue for the social media giant. Fast forward to the Facebook takeover, Zuckerberg has been exploring ways to monetize the app. "That will be the primary monetization model for the company, as well as an opportunity for other companies to reach the people on WhatsApp", the executive told reporters during an event in India. The app has been free for users since 2016, when the service dropped its $1 annual fee after the first year of using the service. Pretty much every popular app has introduced Stories, a way to post about what you're doing at the moment or share an interesting or amusing post and having it deleted automatically within the next 24 hours. This is the section that takes more than a few inspirations from Instagram Stories and lets you share text, photos, videos, and GIFs.

It is unclear when there will be ads status.
