Actor Idris Elba, who James Bond fans are campaigning to be the next person to play 007, was named the sexiest man alive yesterday by People magazine.

Speaking about his new title, the 46-year-old revealed that, after being "picked on" as a kid, it was a "nice surprise". "Looked in the mirror, I checked myself out. I was like, 'Yeah, you are kind of sexy today".

The honor came as a surprise for Elba, who called it an "ego boost".

Last year's honoree was singer Blake Shelton.

Accused Mexican drug lord 'El Chapo' faces USA trial
He was arrested again by Mexican marines in February 2014 but escaped 14 months later before being re-captured in January 2016. Gómez said a journey to the rugged Sierra Madre by American actor Sean Penn put investigators on Guzman's doorstep.

So what did Elba think when he first heard about his latest title? "And my name was Idrissa Akuna Elba, okay?" "Life isn't about thinking about what you should have done", adds Elba, who is now shooting the Fast & Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw with former Sexiest Man Alive Dwayne Johnson.

"Life isn't about thinking about what you should have done", he said. He shortly afterwards tweeted a response, in which he got a little political. What's even more important is your vote in the midterm elections. "Grew a mustache, had some muscles, bonkers". "Your vote can make a difference!" he said.

The British actor will soon be off the market as he is planning his wedding to fiancée Sabrina Dhowre, 29, who famously accompanied him to the Royal Wedding back in May.

The dad of two - of 16-year-old daughter, Isan and 4-year-old son, Winston - said he strives to live with as few regrets as possible. He was also named Essence's Sexiest Man of the year in 2013.
