Shaqiri was born in Kosovo, whose independence is not recognised by the Serbian government, and is a point of contention in many eastern European countries.

"I will not make it "Shaqiri said" or "wanted" actually".

"We have to concentrate on football".

"It was a hard situation if you want, usually you don't think about things like that before a game but we had to think about it".

Red Star Belgrade coach Vladan Milojevic believes his team are playing for the pride of Serbia as defeat on Tuesday - coupled with a win for Napoli against Paris Saint-Germain - would eliminate them from the competition.

Klopp added: "We are Liverpool FC, a big club, a football team, but we don't have any message further than that".

"For the club, Belgrade, Serbia and the whole region tomorrow is an important occasion, and we are looking forward to a spectacle".

"It's a challenge. You won 4-0 and I said after the game they would have been much better if we had given them more of the game".

Denzel Washington , Snoop Dogg, Adam Levine, Kristen Bell and Odell Beckham Jr. were among the celebrities attending the game. He injured his foot late in the Raps' win at Phoenix on Friday night.

"That's what we have to try".

The German coach has denied omitting Shaqiri from Liverpool's Champions League trip to Red Star Belgrade over security concerns and insisted it made sense "to cool the situation down' at the hostile Rajko Mitic Stadium".

Liverpool will also be without club captain Jordan Henderson and Nathaniel Clyne due to a hamstring issue and illness respectively, but Naby Keita and Dejan Lovren could feature.

One contributing factor that pundits and journalists have cited is fatigue and tiredness but Jurgen Klopp was asked about whether or not Firmino is exhausted after playing nearly 70 games of football since the start of last season.

Shaqiri played a central role in the Reds' dismantling of the Serbian champions in the reverse tie at Anfield last month, which finished 4-0.

Much is being made of the intimidating atmosphere that awaits Liverpool's players inside the Rajko Mitic Stadium but defender Andy Robertson has urged his team-mates to lean on their experiences away from home past year.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Nicholas said: "This is a volatile situation so not taking Xherdan Shaqiri they're trying to diffuse the situation".

Klopp should stick to the front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Mohamed Salah.
