Active shooter reported at bar holding college event

Witnesses told The LA Times someone ran into the bar about 11.30pm, USA time, and started firing what appeared to be a black pistol.

Ventura County Sheriff's Office Captain Garo Kuredjian called the situation "active", saying there were at least six people injured inside the building.

The incident was reported at the Borderline Bar and Grill in the town of Thousand Oaks.

The extent of the victim's injuries has not yet been released.

Police tell the Ventura County Star that the initial report came around 11:20 p.m. that a man opened fire at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, which is about 40 miles west of Los Angeles.

One witness said there were multiple shots fired inside the bar.

Fox's decision was particularly surprising given the network's close proximity and friendly relationship with the White House. On Facebook's platform, the ad reached millions of viewers before the social network chose to stop running it Monday.

Officers at the scene told the newspaper that about 30 shots had been fired. I look up - the security guard is dead.

A police helicopter swirled overhead and officers surrounded the area with cars.

He said responding deputies could hear gunshots as they arrived on scene.

People were hiding from the shooter in bathrooms and attic spaces, while others who managed to escape fled to nearby gas stations for medical help, reports claim.

Reports say the suspect may have used smoke grenades as well as a gun in the attack. An event aimed at university students was scheduled to take place this evening.
