Ocasio-Cortez becomes youngest woman elected to Congress

We've been talking about the good and the bad of yesterday's election, and there sure is a lot of both, but one great thing we can't stop celebrating is the incredible number of women elected to office. Women held 84 out of 435 House seats, a record Aljazeera reported. Democrats won the national election (despite important setbacks in the US Senate) because of women candidates and women voters. Arizona's race is still too close to call, but either way, the state will be sending its first woman to the Senate (Democrat Kyrsten Sinema or Republican Martha McSally.) Marsha Blackburn is Tennessee's first female senator, despite Taylor Swift's endorsement of her Democratic opponent, and by electing Jacky Rosen, Nevada became the fifth state to have two female senators.

Below are some of the record-making moments from the 2018 midterm elections.

Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib from MI became the first two Muslim women to win election to Congress.

The vice president took to Twitter to congratulate his brother, who easily won the solidly Republican and heavily white district in the Midwestern state.
