Trump warns House Democrats against investigating his administration

Trump managed to keep his hold of the Senate, where the Republican majority may even increase.

Democrats needed a net gain of 23 seats to control the House and gain a check on President Donald Trump.

Two issues more than any others were on voters' minds. Trump said he was moving on, and the reporter actually refused to give up the microphone when an aide tried to take it.

Anticipating the possibility of keeping the Senate but losing the House, aides in recent days had laid out the political reality to Trump, who could face an onslaught of Democratic-run investigations. "Two can play that game!" he said. At the same time, there could be regular reports about what the committee staff has found in subpoenaed records - perhaps Trump's tax returns, his company's internal financial documents, the records of his various oligarch partners in the former Soviet Union, and e-mails and other digital messages between Trump's team and people in Russian Federation. The GOP did add to its majority in the Senate. Additionally, in 2014, Obama lost the Senate. There could be a political gridlock in the capital if the White House and the Speaker's office does not engage constructively.

Tennessee gained the state's first woman in the Senate as Marsha Blackburn defeated former Gov. Phil Bredesen.

Republican leadership elections are set for next week. The GOP's grip on high-profile governorships in Florida, Georgia and Wisconsin were at risk as well. Many of those incumbents retired in part because of Trump. Voters scored Trump positively on the economy and for standing up "for what he believes in". Its members effectively will be able to block all legislation that the Senate passes and the president wants.

The president bet big on a xenophobic closing message, warning of an immigrant "invasion" that promised to spread violent crime and drugs across the nation.

Returning to his immigration-heavy 2016 playbook, Trump went on to unleash his full fury on a caravan of migrants slowly making their way to the southern border. So this was a five-point decline from what was already a low 2016 number.

Republicans are expected to pickup a net gain of two Senate seats following the midterms. The Justice Department dropped the charges after his trial ended in an hung jury.

Democrats won the national election (despite important setbacks in the US Senate) because of women candidates and women voters. Davids - who was raised by a single mother Army veteran - won a district that includes Kansas City and its southern suburbs.

In fact, even before the votes were fully counted, the two sides began sparring over the future course, although the Democratic Party itself is divided over whether to pursue a more aggressive line on Trump, including launching more aggressive investigations and initiating impeachment proceedings.

Potential frontrunners for the 2020 presidency includes Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of NY. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Sherrod Brown of Ohio, Sen.

New York Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo - sometimes spoken of as a 2020 presidential contender - cruised to a third term.

Mr Trump will facing greater scrutiny as the Democrats took control of the House in the midterm elections for the first time in eight years, during yesterday's midterm elections. He and the first lady were to host an evening watch party for family and friends. But all legislation requires the consent of both houses.

Mr Trump tweeted late Tuesday after staying quiet for much of election night.

When Cummings and other Democrats asked previous year for records detailing Trump's separation from his businesses, they received an eight-page glossy pamphlet and a single email. A margin of less than half a percentage point automatically triggers a recount.

Pelosi is a "smart woman", Trump said during a almost 90-minute press conference at the White House, and someone with whom he hopes to engage in "beautiful bipartisanship" and deal-making. Democratic Senate incumbents were up for re-election, for example, in North Dakota, Indiana, and Missouri - states Trump carried by nearly 25 percentage points on average two years ago.

Democrats boasted record diversity on ballots. Kristi Noem won the election to become South Dakota's first female governor. In addition, at least 13 women won Senate seats.
