As another series of wildfires spread rapidly through California, more than 20 million people in the state are under red flag warnings Friday.

The Woolsey Fire broke out on Thursday and quickly jumped the 101 Freeway towards Malibu. One CBS reporter said she has seen rabbits cowering from the smoke, and running around in confusion.

While no homes or businesses have been lost due to the fast-moving blaze, a number of RVs and outbuildings have been burned and a firefighter suffered a minor injury, authorities said.

The National Weather Service now predicts heavy winds throughout Friday morning could potentially help spread the blaze.

The Woolsey Fire was originally reported just south of Simi Valley and about 25 miles southwest of Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, where a gunman killed 12 people enjoying country line dancing at college night before killing himself.

Malibu has been ordered to evacuate, as well as Oak Park, Thousand Oaks and other areas in the Highway 101 vicinity.

Fire officials initially ordred the evacuation of all 13,000 residents of the community, which stretches 21 miles along the ocean, but later scaled it back to the western two-thirds of the city. There's nothing much left standing.

The nearest evacuation center is at Palisades High School, located at 15777 Bowdoin St, Pacific Palisades, CA 90272.

Accidents gridlocked routes out of Paradise and residents abandoned their cars and fled on foot carrying children and pets, Reuters quoted local officials as saying.

Murphy says firefighters were able to stop the fire at the edge of the city, where evacuation orders remained in place.

The two blazes are among 16 now active fires in California. This morning at 7:00am, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported via Twitter that the fire is an "imminent threat" to Malibu.

The region has grappled with serious wildfires - including the worst in the state's history, the Mendocino and Thomas fires - on and off since 2017.
