Google Chrome will ad-block entire websites with abusive adverts

The Mountain View organization has clarified on its help page, that damaging encounters incorporate phony messages, surprising snap zones on a site or ads, deceiving site conduct, phishing, auto divert with no user mediation, malware or undesirable programming, and advertisements or page components that take after a moving or clicking mouse pointer that effort to trap a user into cooperating with it. Abusive ads basically constitute any ads that cause the browser to misbehave. In particular, the change targets ads that steal personal data, begin unwanted and unexpected downloads, or that redirect a user unwittingly to external sites via pop-up windows. While some of them may be useful, targeted ads at large, are considered an intrusion to user privacy.

"Last year, after hearing from Chrome users, we launched a set of user protections against "abusive experiences" - experiences created to intentionally mislead and tricker users into taking action on the web", said Vivek Sekhar, product manager for Chrome. Chrome 68 has already brought and implemented similar measures. If your website is found to have "abusive' ads, the search giant will give you 30 days to fix it".

This isn't Google's first attempt at curbing the epidemic of "abusive experiences" on the Web, which mostly refers to deceptive ads. This means pop-ups that resemble any mainstream chat window but when clicked, would automatically open an ad instead. This can lead to several unsafe situations in real life. "So are ads that are created to mislead or trick users into interacting with them", Google notes.

"Stronger protections ensure users can interact with their intended content on the web, without abusive experiences getting in the way". Version 70 of Chrome contains a setting that blocks ads on sites that tend to show intrusive ads.

Moreover, Blizzard sees mobile games as an opportunity to introduce their games to a "much broader audience around the world ". Microsoft had a similar moment at E3, announcing the Gears POP! mobile game right before Gears 5.

The renewed policy on stopping the culture of abusive ads in its tracks is very clear. "The Chrome 71 update is an extension of that". Instead it will use any complaints about a site as the starting pistol for a 30 day warning that it's time to pack in the amusing stuff. Some users kill all ads via ad blockers anyway-which is why users need to be convinced that ads should just be annoying, rather than outright harmful.

Google updated the list of abusive experiences recently. Although Google claims that the problem is not very widespread, it concedes that stricter action was necessary.

"We've learned since then that this approach did not go far enough", said Vivek Sekhar, Product Manager for Google.

The ad blocking engine in Chrome will be built-in but it will be possible to disable it.
