U.S. mid-terms 2018: Florida senate race recount triggered

But late on Friday, Bucher said it was impossible for her to meet the 10 a.m. Saturday deadline imposed by Marx; she claimed the ballots on which her staff made decisions had already been mixed back in with all the regular ballots and it would be impossible to separate them out and still meet the state certification by Saturday. "No ragtag group of liberal activists or lawyers from D.C. will be allowed to steal this election from the voters in the state of Florida".

The lawsuit was filed about the same time Scott ordered state law enforcement officials to investigate the Broward and Palm Beach voting operation.

Both Nelson's and Scott's teams have been fighting to officially secure the win as more ballots are still being counted. Gillum was 0.4% behind DeSantis on Friday morning, with 99.98% of the vote counted. "Just saw notice from @PBCounty that my absentee ballot wasn't counted due to "invalid signature' match", he wrote, adding that Palm Beach County's totals, therefore, deserve to be one higher for Nelson as well as Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum". Although Gillum did concede after Tuesday's election, by Thursday afternoon the counts had narrowed to the point that it crossed the 0.5 percent automatic recount threshold.

President Donald Trump also weighed in, tweeting, "Law Enforcement is looking into another big corruption scandal having to do with Election Fraud in #Broward and Palm Beach".

According to the lawsuit, in 2012 and 2016, 1 percent of all vote-by-mail ballots were rejected as illegal.

"Now they "found" many votes and he is only up 15,000 votes".

- Gov. Rick Scott lashed out Thursday night at elections supervisors in Broward and Palm Beach counties as "incompetent" and part of an effort to "thwart the will of the people", as the margin of his apparent U.S. Senate victory has narrowed and likely will require a recount.

Jaylen Brown connected on the go-ahead 3-pointer in overtime to cap a 17-point effort and Terry Rozier added 10 points. For a team struggling to find its identity, Brad Stevens forced his guys to dig deep, stay focused and keep fighting.

Nelson's camp believes provisional and mail-in ballots will favor their candidate and tighten the contest even more before a recount begins on Sunday.

Moments later, as the president was en route to Paris for a meeting with world leaders, he tweeted, "You mean they are just now finding votes in Florida and Georgia - but the Election was on Tuesday?"

Caldwell is also calling for a "forensic reconstruction of when ballots were cast and how".

Rick Scott is suing two Florida counties, accusing election supervisors of "rampant fraud" in vote counting. They are comprised of the county Supervisor of Elections, a circuit court judge and the Chair of the County Commission.

However, the Associated Press is reporting that Mr DeSantis has won the election. "Well, here we go again", Scott said from a podium at the governor's mansion. Bill Nelson received 18,036 votes to Scott's 18,026.

And who knows, some Democrat searching for ballots for the current recounts in Broward and Palm Beach counties may hit the jackpot and "find" a dust-covered box in a broom closet with lost ballots from the 2000 presidential election.

Razor-thin margins in Florida's bitter races for the U.S. Senate and governor are raising the possibility of recounts, potentially prolonging two of the most closely watched contests of the nation's midterm elections.
