It was a scene of horror enacted in many places around the country in recent months, but never before in Thousand Oaks. It is not known if the bouncer survived.

A law enforcement official said Ian David Long wrote on social media ad he shot people at Borderline Bar and Grill in LA.

The sheriff said Long drove to the bar and shot an unarmed security guard who was standing outside before opening fire at random inside.

Susan Schmidt-Orfanos, the mother of 27-year-old Telemachus Orfanos, angrily rejected the idea of "thoughts and prayers" following the attack by a Marine veteran on the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks. Sgt Helus died at a hospital.

An emotional Sheriff Geoff Dean talked about his friend. He gave his all.

"He'd be the first to rush in to try to solve the problem to try to neutralize that threat, so I know he didn't have a moment's hesitation to go in when he heard those shots", Keradjian said. Armed with a knife in case an attacker came in, he hunkered down and waited with 40 other people for four hours.

"He had flawless form", bar patron Teylor Whittler told Fox News.

"It was really, really shocking..." "I can not believe that it's happened to my family ..." She was appalled that such bloodshed had come to her community.

"What I'm scared of is Cody went towards the action and not away from the action", he said.

Vehicle bombs, gunfire kill at least 23 in Somalia
Former Somali lawmaker Abdi Barre Jibril said most of the people killed were passersby or passengers in buses or rickshaws. A third blast hit the busy street near the hotel about 20 minutes later, according to witnesses.

"I don't know what he saw over there, but he was mentally disturbed before he left for the military", Dominique Colell, who coached Long in track, told Inside Edition.

"Our hearts are with all those whose loved ones were stolen from them too soon, by yet another senseless act of gun violence", he said, calling Helus a "true hero". "So he knew what he was doing, and he also had ideal form". Some of the classmates that teased Long were at the bar the night of the shooting.

"It's a horrific scene in there. Long over the years, minor events, a traffic collision", Dean told a news conference, adding that there was another one in 2015 when he was beaten up at a local bar.

"We have no idea if there is a terrorism link to this or not". "We're sending you our best strength we can out in California".

FBI investigators following leads in quest to investigate the gunman's state of mind. "We certainly will look at that option".

Long used an illegal extended magazine - created to hold extra bullets - in his attack on the Borderline Bar & Grill, about 40 miles west of Los Angeles.

Mr Matt Wennerstron, a 20-year-old college student and regular at the bar, said the shooter fired a short-barrelled pistol that apparently had a 10 to 15-round magazine.

Minutes later the veteran, who served in Afghanistan, uploaded another post that read: "I hope people call me insane (two smiley face emojis)... wouldn't that just be a big ball of irony?"
