Kuchar sinks eight birdies to take the lead in Mexico

Champ victor at the Sanderson Farms Championship in MS, was in full control as he missed only two fairways for the second straight day.

Joining Kuchar at the top of the leaderboard are compatriots Kramer Hickok and Dominic Bozzelli, who both also hit bogey-free rounds at El Camaleon Golf Club in Mexico.

For three days, Matt Kuchar has felt in total control of his game at the Mayakoba Golf Classic.

"I can't imagine doing better through 54 holes", Kuchar said. He's only two shots behind Kuchar.

Champ, who won his first PGA Tour title in his second start as a tour member at the Sanderson Farms Championship in MS last month, had eight birdies an eagle and one bogey on the El Camaleon Golf Club Course in Playa del Carmen.

"So to be able to bring the family to enjoy some vacation time, it's a bit of a working vacation", said Kuchar, who will be one of the star attractions at the Australian Open in Sydney next week and the World Cup in Melbourne the week after.

Kuchar reached the turn in 31 and started his back nine with another birdie, before holing a 35-foot bogey putt at the next after finding bushes off the tee and having to take a penalty drop.

Kuchar made eight birdies on the round, including five straight beginning at the second hole.

Ninth-ranked Rickie Fowler of Murrieta is tied for 20th after a 68, while 14th-ranked Jordan Spieth shot 69 and missed the cut by two strokes, the seventh time he will miss the weekend this year.

"If you're not driving it well, this course is extremely hard", Kuchar said.

More than half of the field of 132 posted scores in the 60s and a group of 15 players were just one behind the leaders.

Top-ranked Ariya Jutanugarn, who started the day with a four-stroke lead, sits one shot back after a 1-under 71.

Champ already won the Sanderson Farms Championship two weeks ago, held opposite a World Golf Championships event.

Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk had a 66 and was at 13-under 200.
