Giants edge out 49ers to end losing run

So far this season, the decision to stick with Manning had looked more and more calamitous with each passing week.

And not only that, he can lead his team back from a deficit to win games late, which is exactly what he did in the 27-23 win at Levi's Stadium.

Sterling Shepard recorded just two receptions but had the biggest catch of the contest, a game-winning touchdown catch from Manning with just 53 seconds left.

Just about everything went right for Mullens in his debut against the Oakland Raiders on November 1, when he joined Hall of Famers Jim Kelly and Fran Tarkenton as the only players with at least 250 yards passing, three touchdown passes and no interceptions in the first career game. NY settled for a field goal that tied the game at 10. However, they failed to hold onto a 10-point second-half lead as they fell, 27-23. So, this was not exactly a battle of titans.

Manning made sure he won't be benched after Monday's performance: He completed 19 of 31 passes for 188 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. His passer rating was 110.7 and no doubt he staves off talk that he will lose his starting job, at least for another week.

San Francisco quarterback Nick Mullens, making his second career start, threw a touchdown and two interceptions in the losing effort. Breida's second touchdown set up a 30-yard field goal by Robbie Gould. Up 20-10 after the first drive in the third quarter.

"I thought we had a good game plan and tried to stick with the run, " Eli Manning said. Goodwin was slow to get up after that play and went back into the medical tent for observation.

Saquon Barkley had 20 carries for 67 yards. "So it's obviously something we've got to figure out because it's happened multiple times this season in big games". Three plays later, Manning connected with Beckham on their first touchdown to give the Giants a 7-3 lead. Linebacker Fred Warner sniffed out the call and shot through to drop Barkley at the 2-yard line.

Beckham had four catches for 73 yards and the two TDs. As Beckham trotted to the sideline, he tapped his fingers to his chest, as if to say, "What about me?" As a response to the initial interception, he led the Niners on a 75-yard touchdown drive on the ensuing possession.

Aldrick Rosas' second of two field goals, a 31-yarder, produced a 20-all tie with 2:10 left in the third, setting up the tight finish.

The Giants finished with 97 yards rushing, failing to crack 100 yards for the sixth time this season. His challenge, more than the 49ers defense, was the field and his footing, as he slipped on three of his runs.
