Germany's Sophia Flörsch suffers horrific airborne crash at Macau Grand Prix

A 17-year-old race auto driver was taken to hospital after her vehicle flew off the tracks and crashed in a Formula 3 Grand Prix in Macau on Sunday (Nov 18).

'Thanks to the @fia and @hwaag_official @MercedesAMGF1 who are taking great care of me.

Horrified spectators looked on in disbelief at the collision, which delayed the race for more than an hour and left five people in hospital.

Her vehicle appeared to clip a rival on the way into the low-speed corner, careering past other cars before being launched off a kerb towards barriers on the other side of the course. Five people, including two drivers, a couple of photographers and a marshal were injured in the horrifying crash after Floersch' auto struck and cleared a perimeter fence.

Organisers from the Macau F3 World Cup have confirmed German Sophia Floersch is conscious and has been taken to hospital following a horror accident that has shocked the motorsport world. Photographer Chan Weng Wang suffered a liver laceration, while photographer Minami Hiroyuki had a concussion.

'Following evaluation by medical staff, the driver is conscious and has subsequently been taken to hospital for further evaluation'.

Beijing tourism authorities issued a statement requiring hotels to check and rectify their practices. It says cutlery and crockery must be cleaned daily, and sets levels for bacteria counts in hotels.

This is the 65th Macau Grand Prix, a street circuit known to be challenging because of its high-speed straights and tight corners.

"The others involved include a marshal Chan Cha In, who suffered facial lacerations, a broken jaw plus an abrasion to his "upper abdomen wall".

Before the crash, Floersh had shared her excitement for the Macau Grand Prix on her social media channels.

Motopark Academy's Dan Ticktum romped to victory in an interrupted Formula 3 race at Macau on Sunday.

But she appeared to have cheered up later and shared a selfie taken with two police officers on Instagram.
