The idea that Election Day should be a national holiday was proposed by independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, for whom Ocasio-Cortez was an organizer, when he pursued the Democratic primary for the 2016 presidential election.

She has taken $6,200 in salary from her campaign coffers since August.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hit back at Republicans for criticizing her latest misstep, saying they need to stop "drooling" over every word that comes out of her mouth.

Even after she won, Ocasio-Cortez has proven even more relatable, admitting that she now can't afford to move to D.C. because her government salary won't officially kick in for months.

She will earn approximately $174,000 a year as a lawmaker. "We're working it out!"

Free from any corporate funding, Ocasio-Cortez's policies include a human right to housing, Medicare for all, ending private prisons and universal higher education. Bernie Sanders; ultimately she adopted a very progressive platform similar to his.

The congresswoman came to prominence after beating veteran Democrat Joe Crowley in a NY congressional primary in July.

This past Saturday, she endorsed a far-Left group's bid to put up primary candidates against moderate Democrats in 2020.

This is in reference to the fact that on the campaign trail, Ocasio-Cortez represented herself as a political outsider who not only wanted to fight for people who were struggling to make ends meet, but who knew what it was like to be a person struggling to make ends meet. They call themselves the "Justice Democrats" and they're about to become a thorn in the side to establishment Democrats.
