Rangers acquire Strome from Oilers

The Ranger and Oilers swapped young forwards named Ryan on Friday as NY acquired 25-year-old Ryan Strome in exchange for a 26-year-old Ryan Spooner. He has 59 goals and 103 assists in 358 career National Hockey League games with the Islanders and Oilers.

Spooner, 26, had two points (one goal, one assist) in 16 games for the Rangers.

Strome, 25, has appeared in 358 National Hockey League games for the New York Islanders and the Edmonton Oilers. "I think he feels like, and we feel like, maybe there's a little bit more that he can still get to the level we're all hoping he can get to". He was in his second season with the Oilers, who acquired him in a trade with the New York Islanders for forward Jordan Eberle on June 22, 2017.

In Spooner, Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli acquires a player he selected 45 overall for the Boston Bruins in 2010clas. He was a having a hard time this season producing in Edmonton following back to back 13 goals seasons with 30 and 34 points in those two seasons, respectively. After averaging 16:51 for the Rangers last season, Spooner's ATOI in 2018-19 dropped over five minutes a night to 12:41. Before his slow start this season, he managed just 13 goals and 21 assists in 82 games last season for the Oilers.
