Aston DB6 MkII Volante classic auto converted into an all-electric powerhouse

Power management for the entire system is done via a screen that is discreetly fitted to the car's interior. Numerous cities around Europe are planning bans on cars with petrol and diesel engines around 2025 or 2030, meaning owners of classic cars like the DB6 won't be able to show their priceless classics off.

Heritage EV conversions could begin as early as next year, depending on customer feedback, although a price has yet to be officially confirmed.

Based on a 1970 DB6 MkII Volante, the concept doesn't look too remarkable as its hides the "world's first reversible EV powertrain conversion" underneath its skin.

The EV cassette is enclosed in a self-contained cell and mounted on the original engine and gearbox mountings. Aston Martin agrees, which is why it's rolling out a new plan to release a reversible EV powertrain conversion.

Let's say for a minute that you rather fancy the idea of going more environmentally-friendly by driving an EV, but have an inescapable obsession with classic Aston Martins.

Using lessons learned from development of an electric option for the Rapide sedan due in 2019, the Aston Martin Works classic vehicle department has developed a self-contained unit referred to as a "cassette" that sits on the original engine and gearbox mountings.

Aston's conversion offers classic motoring with a social conscience.

"We have been looking for some time to find a way of protecting our customers' long-term enjoyment of their cars", said Paul Spires, president of Aston Martin Works.

Aston Martin hasn't made any specifications available just yet, but more information should come out in the near future. The program is expected to start in 2019 under the Heritage EV banner. While there was no official word on the costs involved, we would confidently predict it to be a number with LOTS of zeros in it.
