Paris Saint-Germain are thought to be leading the chase for the 21-year-old's signature, with a deal worth €75m (£67m/$85m) with Manchester City and Barcelona also in the mix.

Reports this morning suggested midfielder De Jong was on his way to PSG for a fee of around €75million but the player has now denied a deal has been done.

However, according to De Telegraaf, PSG have agreed to meet that price, and the Netherlands worldwide will move to the French capital in next summer's transfer window.

De Jong admits that Manchester City and Barcelona both play a brand of football which appeals to him, and he names Lionel Messi as "the best" because he can do everything.

Given De Jong's budding reputation as a skilled passer, it is no surprise he enjoys how Pep Guardiola's sides play, whether they are his old Barcelona champions or his current Manchester City squad. Ajax director Marc Overmars has admitted to holding talks with the French giants and they are willing to pay the asking price recently set by the former Arsenal winger. "The rumours appeared again today and I'm sure it will stay like this for a while, but I think we're handling it well".

De Jong is unsure of where he'll be playing his football next season but is focused exclusively on helping Ajax wrestle the Dutch league title from PSV Eindhoven's clutches.

"I like to watch the great players, the ones who are technically good and understand the game", De Jong added.

De Jong is well aware of the intense speculation surrounding his future but has insisted he's not letting it sidetrack him in any way.
