Health Department urges Vermonters get flu shots

The flu vaccine is available at doctors' offices, some pharmacies and Park County Public Health.

Pregnant women are at an increased risk for severe illness and complications if infected with the influenza virus. The vaccine's effectiveness depends on multiple factors - including the amount of time between vaccination and exposure to the disease, your age and health status - yet studies show that the flu vaccination benefits public health, especially when the vaccine is well matched to that year's circulating viruses. And there's other people in our state and communities who have elderly grandparents or parents, or even young children. Now that the new flu season is already underway, the medical community is still urging the unvaccinated members of the public to get immunized. Explain why the flu is more serious and why vaccinations are crucial.

What about those who say that they've gotten the flu shot in the past and still gotten the flu?

As many people turn to the Internet for health information, it is critical to recognize that user-generated content from anti-vaccine supporters directly impact patient medical decisions.
