More than 5 million passwords were leaked this year, password manager SplashData's analysis of breached data reveals. That's even more frightening if you use the same password for multiple services. There have been numerous warnings about how risky this is, but the fact remains: bad habits die hard.

You can check out the full list here.

The top seven in the table of worst passwords are, "123456", the word password itself and string of number sequences, "123456789", "12345678", "12345", "111111" and "1234567". It is too simple a password which is why it has been included in this list.

However, other sites have complex password-formulating requirements-like a mix of upper and lower case, one number, and one symbol-that can lead people to pick "Password1!", which is only slight harder for intruders to decipher as "password".

France Steps up Security With Spain After Strasbourg Shooting
The people who died in the attack included a Thai tourist, 45-year-old Anupong Suebsamarn, according to the Thai Foreign Ministry. The usually busy streets of Strasbourg were eerily empty on Thursday morning, with a heavy police and military presence.

SplashData recommends that you use passphrases of 12 or more characters with mixed type of characters.

"As the value of cryptocurrencies reached record levels at the beginning of the year, scores of crypto owners had the potential to cash out - if they could remember their passwords", the report wrote. Also, use a different password for each service/platform. A Government Accountability Office (GAO) audit found, among other things, that some weapons systems had software protected with default passwords that could be found via a Google search.

It's that time of year when you need to start thinking about new year's resolutions.

Undeterred from the most basic security advice, millions of people keep using the same weak passwords, according to SplashData.
