"We are honored, but not surprised, by the Best Diets recognition from U.S. News and World Report", said Mindy Grossman, President and Chief Executive Officer at WW. The Mediterranean diet has also been associated with a reduced risk of cancer and Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. What they found is that there's one that stands out above the rest for being easy to follow, safe, nutritious, effective for weight loss, and great for preventing lifestyle-related diseases like heart disease and diabetes. Those two diets tied for the 38th spot out of 41 diet plans reviewed by U.S. News and World Report's panel of medical experts.

Meanwhile, the Nordic diet - a plant-focused plan that borrows from the Scandinavian tradition - made its first appearance on the list, at number nine.

And no, unfortunately, there is still no magic fix for losing weight, but there are certain diets that have been shown to be more successful. Eating a diet that's mostly vegetarian while also allowing for an occasional burger or steak to satisfy a craving can help with weight management and improve overall health, Blatner says.

The eating plan features a wide variety of options, including fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, poultry, and fish.

That doesn't sound so bad, but why was it named the best of the bunch? The plan also involves in-person meetings or online chats created to support those in the program and keep them accountable.
