The recall comes about two months after Teva Pharmaceuticals recalled two of its blood pressure drugs for the same concerns.

Given the high frequency of recalls, many experts have called for improving control of manufacturing processes as the affected drugs were traced back to factories in China and India. Losartan potassium is a drug used to control high blood pressure.

The discovery of N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) and a second impurity, N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA), has prompted a Europe-wide recall.

"Patients taking the recalled valsartan-containing medicines should consult their doctor or pharmacist and continue taking their medicine until they have a replacement product", Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum of Mount Sinai in NY told CNN after a similar recall a year ago.

The Food and Drug Administration as officially announced that Aurobindo Pharma USA, Inc. has chose to voluntarily recall several types of medicine. The recall now includes 10 lots in total. It looks like that trend will continue in 2019 as yet another company has issued a recall of blood pressure tablets after detecting an impurity that may be cancer-causing. It is also used to treat kidney disease in patients with diabetes.

Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut celebrates with the trophy after winning the final against Czech Republic's Tomas Berdych . The world No. 24 won the Qatar Open in Doha overnight, beating Berdych in three sets in a match that lasted two hours.

This recall comes after the U.S. recall on sartan products, including valsartan, last year, and the ongoing efforts into the Europe-wide investigation into the contamination of these products.

As with the other Losartan/Valsartan recalls, Torrent advises patients against going off the drug without having in place an alternate treatment course established by a doctor or pharmacist.

If you think you've experienced adverse reactions, you can report them at the FDA's MedWatch website.

However, the MHRA has stressed there is no evidence the medication has caused harm to patients, who are not being advised to stop taking their medication - because doing so could put their life at risk.

Losartan potassium tablets, USP were distributed nationwide to Torrent's wholesale distributor, repackager and retail customers.
