The Chronicle story says Murray is expected to declare for the NFL Draft on Sunday.

News came out on Wednesday night via the San Francisco Chronicle saying that the Oakland A's are expecting Murray to enter the NFL Draft and pursue a football career.

Murray, an outfielder on the diamond, is due to report to spring training in Arizona on February 15 - nearly two weeks before the NFL's scouting combine takes place.

If the Cardinals don't take him, there's still likely several teams in the first round that would use a pick on him. At that point, Murray would have to make a decision on what sport he wants to play.

Murray's agent, Scott Boras, told The Chronicle in December that his client planned to report to the A's. "I'd take him with the first pick in the draft if I could". "I know he's signed up to play baseball, but he is a dominant football player, and I would take him with the first pick".

Good news, Kliff: You have the first pick.

Murray, a two-sport star, was chosen by the A's with the ninth pick of the Major League Baseball draft in 2018 and signed a $4.66 million contract in June that allowed him to play football for the Sooners for one final year before joining the team.

I'm sure when Kliff Kingsbury was heaping praise upon Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray back in October of past year, he wasn't planning on being the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals just a few months later.

That said, the Cardinals spent a first-round pick on quarterback Josh Rosen last season, and while he struggled throughout much of his rookie season, the odds are against Arizona selecting a quarterback in the first round in back-to-back drafts. The Cardinals traded up to the 10th pick in the 2018 draft to nab Rosen, who had all the makings of a top quarterback but slipped in part because of his outspoken nature.
