On Sunday, authorities charged 20-year-old Eric Black Jr. with capital murder in the tragic and senseless death of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes. Woodruffe was arrested along with Eric Black Jr. on January 5 but was held on felony drug possession pending further investigation.

Woodruffe was charged as Jazmine's funeral took place Tuesday.

Jazmine, who was 7, was riding in a auto with her mother and sisters on December 30 when someone in another vehicle shot her in the head.

Authorities previously said that they believe Woodruffe was the person in an SUV who fired upon Jazmine and her family as they drove to a grocery store.

Initially, law enforcement were searching for a white man driving a red pickup truck, after witnesses reported seeing him speed away from the scene.

Woodruffe and Black are not believed to have meant to target Jazmine Barnes and her family and may have thought they were shooting at someone else, the Harris County Sheriff's Office has said.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said he believes the family's initial description of the shooter was honest and the man in the red truck was likely a bystander who left the scene of the shooting.

But after a week of searching, an anonymous tip led to the arrest of Eric Black Jr.

Woodruffe, 24, will be in court Wednesday morning for the drug case and will have a preliminary hearing in the murder case on Thursday morning, according to online records. The girl's mother, LaPorsha Washington, was shot in the arm and the girl's 15-year-old sister was injured when the window shattered.
