According to The Wall Street Journal, who cited people familiar with the matter, Apple is planning to release three new iPhone models, including a successor to the struggling XR, its lower priced device released previous year that has failed to meet sales expectations. The iPhone XS Max is the largest handset Apple has ever launched with a 6.5-inch screen. The Cupertino-based company is said to be bringing new camera features to the upcoming iPhone models, including a possible triple camera setup in the iPhone XS Max successor.

Its XR-inspired model will probably stick with the LED screen from its current range, whilst the others will use OLED screens.

Apple is expected to unveil three different iPhone models this year, including a successor to the iPhone XR. They also tend to feature on higher-end Android smartphones, something Apple may be reacting to as sales fall in China and India as consumers prefer their own homegrown, full-featured Android smartphones. Mr Cook also acknowledged that consumers in other markets are not buying as numerous latest iPhones.

The new devices will be expected by shareholders to reverse the disappointing sales that led Apple to cut its sales outlook for the first time in nearly two decades on lower-than-anticipated demand in China and elsewhere.

The company's 2019 lineup will consist of a new LCD display iPhone with a dual-lens rear camera, a new OLED display iPhone with dual rear cameras and an OLED iPhone with a triple-lens rear camera array, says WSJ.

Notably, the report of Apple continuing with its trend of launching three iPhone models this year comes just days after its chief executive officer Tim Cook revised sales guidelines for the final quarter of 2018. As for the other two iPhones, it will continue with a dual-camera setup.
