"Derby County Football Club can confirm that officers from the Derbyshire Constabulary were called to the Derby County Training Centre at around 11:20am on Thursday 10th January 2019 following reports of a man acting suspiciously outside the premises", reads the statement.

"There is some precisions that I need to give".

Derby also reached the fourth round of the Carabao Cup beating Manchester United at Old Trafford before going out to Lampard's old club Chelsea, while also drawing with Southampton in the third round of the FA Cup.

Derby boss Frank Lampard said: "At least, on a sportsman's level, it's bad in my opinion".

'We had somebody [spy on us] the first game we played against them, which we lost 4-1.

"If we're going to start talking about "culturally I did it somewhere else and it was fine", then that doesn't work for me", he said.

Derby manager Lampard was visibly annoyed when he spoke to Sky Sports, and said the same thing had happened before the two sides met earlier in the season.

Cilic, who was beaten by Roger Federer in an epic Australian Open final previous year , said his knee was not a worry on court. With his silky hands in superb touch, Tomic broke for a 3-1 lead and then steamed throught the first set.

"We have been doing it publicly". The man was asked to leave but it wasn't followed up like it was this time'. It's disrupted our build-up to the game.

Lampard said: 'Well the training stopped because the police came on the training ground so that's disruption number one, then it went away.

'What I will say is that we were training the day before the game on team tactics, team shape, personnel, how we are going to press, how we are going to work on the ball, the fact that Harry Wilson wasn't training will become very evident, so the person watching sees all of that.

While authorities made no explicit connection between the man and Leeds, Derby insist it was made known to them that he was an employee on the football staff at Elland Road.

The incident, which saw manager Frank Lampard suspend a training session, has prompted suggestion that United were spying on County in preparation for a key league game.

"I have a different point of view but the important thing is what Frank Lampard and Derby County think".
