Huawei has been blocked in the USA since 2012 after the House Intelligence Committee report found that using the company's technology could pose a security risk.

No evidence has publically been produced over Huawei using such equipment.

In addition, TVP Info says, Internal Security Agency officers searched Huawei's headquarters in Poland, along with an Orange office where Piotr D. worked.

The Chinese government said it was "highly concerned" over reports of the arrest of a Chinese businessman for alleged espionage.

"We are aware of the situation, and we are looking into it. Huawei complies with all applicable laws and regulations in the countries where it operates, and we require every employee to abide by the laws and regulations in the countries where they are based", it continued. The company added it did not know if the investigation was linked to the employee's professional work, and that it would continue to cooperate with the authorities.

The TVP also said Polish security forces searched Huawei's Poland office Friday.

'Chinese, Polish nationals' arrested in Poland for 'spying'

Geopolitical tensions over Huawei intensified after its chief financial officer, who is the daughter of founder Ren Zhengfei, was arrested December 1 in Canada in connection with USA accusations that the company violated restrictions on sales of American technology to Iran.

National media reported that two people had been arrested, one of whom is reported to be a sales director at the Chinese hardware supplier.

This has sparked fears Huawei could be asked by the Chinese government to incorporate "backdoors" into their equipment that would allow Beijing access, for spying or sabotage purposes. As well as producing smartphones, the Chinese corporation develops mobile network infrastructure used in many countries, which some nations see as a potential security risk.

Countries like the United States, Australia and Japan have blocked Huawei from building their next-generation, super-fast 5G internet networks.

Maciej Wasik, deputy head of Poland's special service, said the two arrested men "carried out espionage activities against Poland" and the operation to arrest them was underway for a long time.

The arrested pair will be held for three months, PAP reported, quoting a spokesperson for Polish security services.
