Emery admits Arsenal can only afford loan signings in January

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has revealed that the club are looking to sign players in the January transfer window, but only on loan.

"You have to balance the players because they play a lot of matches in the next month, with the Europa League and the FA Cup".

Five players were signed last summer - Bernd Leno, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi - but all came in for a total outlay of less than £75million.

He added: "The club is working, telling me each moment different situations can happen". But at the moment I don't have news on that.

"We can not sign permanently", he added.

"This week they are working with us with, Mustafi, Monreal and Bellerin", Emery said.

It's unbelievable that the Gunners can only afford to loan players during this transfer window considering the size and revenue of the club.

Arsenal have already been tipped to pursue the services of Denis Suarez from Barcelona but they are experiencing a similar predicament with the Spanish club wanting a straight-cash deal for the Spaniard.

"In the last match I was very happy with him".

"I am happy because another player can have chances when one player is injured and they are doing well, that is the reason for us being calm and my confidence with the club is big, they are working and if one or two players can come and help us that is ideal". "But we can only sign on a loan and I know the club is working for the possibility of players who can help us with this condition".

Emery worked with the former Manchester City player at Sevilla, but said: "I do not know his situation". I asked in the last match at Blackpool if he is OK to help us play and he said, "Yeah, coach, I want to play" and he played with a very big behaviour and commitment to us.
