Asked if some of her policy proposals are unrealistic, Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat who represents parts of the Bronx and Queens, told Cooper, "What's unrealistic is what we're living in right now", she said. "We just don't need sniping in our Democratic Caucus".

"I'm sure Ms. Cortez means well, but there's nearly an outstanding rule: Don't attack your own people", said Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO).

Some Ways and Means Committee Democrats said that the focus should be on holding hearings looking at the tax code following the enactment of Trump's tax law, rather than pursuing Ocasio-Cortez's idea.

Ocasio-Cortez, a first time candidate, delivered a shocking upset past year when she ousted 10-term incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley in New York's 14th congressional district.

Strikingly, the scene from the comic book series from which the quote is taken occurs in a prison cafeteria-a potentially provocative, though perhaps fluid, metaphor for what Congress has become to many lawmakers.

Since her election, Ocasio-Cortez has made a number of controversial statements which have provoked strong responses, including accusing the former White House Chief of Staff and retired Marine Corps General John F. Kelly of "cowardice". They believe the movement behind Ocasio-Cortez to try and help elevate her to a top committee post is undeserved.

Carlos Ghosn comes down with fever in jail, halting interrogation
The judge said his ongoing detention was justified because he poses a flight risk and could tamper with evidence if released. Otsuru earlier this week said Ghosn would likely be held until the trial which could begin in about six months.

"If you look at the majority of new Democrats in the House, they tend to be, I say, center-left, if they are not left-left".

Recently Ocasio-Cortez told Politico that she wasn't interested in backing progressive candidates against incumbent Democrats, insisting that she's "focused on my job". "This is basic stuff, especially if you hold yourself out to be the champion of workers".

"People are going to have to start paying their fair share of taxes", she said.

Lawmakers have been quietly criticizing the NY newcomer and are hoping to rein in her criticism of those in her own party, Politico reported, citing almost 20 lawmakers and aides.

"People are afraid of her", said one senior Democratic aide.
