Despite those reported cases, hospitalizations remain relatively low. Almost all of the pediatric illnesses are linked to H1N1.

Flu-like symptoms that appear to get better, but then return with a fever and worse cough.

Indiana has now recorded its fourth influenza-related death of the 2018-19 season, according to the Indiana State Department of Health's weekly influenza report.

Biggest disappointment: It was a rough afternoon for Keith Mitchell, who turned a spot in the final group into a tie for 16th. Fellow American Kuchar fell back to second at 17-under with three bogeys and two birdies after nine holes.

So far this season, Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia have each recorded one death in which the patient had a lab-confirmed case of the flu. None of those deaths have been children. Flu usually takes off after Christmas and peaks around February. "They don't have the ability and capacity to generate enough oxygen for the rest of the body to survive the infection", Givelichian said. As many as 83,500 people with the flu had been hospitalized by that date. "So this is the year where we're potentially going to see more death and devastation from it". "I know that will be a little bit overwhelming for the health-care providers anywhere in the country, but unfortunately this year because of the different type of disease and the severity of the disease, I think that a child should be seen sooner rather than later".

The H1N1 strain of influenza is hard on children's lungs, said Dr. Laurentiu Givelichian, head of pediatrics for the Saskatchewan Health Authority. None of them had been vaccinated, he said. As of December 29, 2018, 13 children had died from influenza this flu season. Anyone with flu complications or symptoms should seek medical treatment with an anti-viral drug, officials said.

The flu is expected to affect more people, so the CDC is still recommending that people get a flu shot. People might also get flu by touching a contaminated surface or object that has flu virus on it and then touching their own mouth or nose.
