"We are continuing to report and determine what the special counsel is disputing", the news outlet said in a statement.

Cohen's movements have been closely watched in recent months as he co-operates with special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. After the BuzzFeed report was published on Thursday night, investigators in the US Senate and House of Representatives said they plan to examine the allegations in the report.

The clamor grew throughout the day and into Friday night.

Rudy Giuliani, Mr. Trump's personal attorney, praised the special counsel for disputing the BuzzFeed story. When contacted, Mueller's office would not address the content of the report directly but issued a general warning about inaccurate depictions of the investigation and its findings.

He described the special counsel's push-back as "vague", and said, "We really urge the special counsel to make it clear what he's disputing".

The website went on to report that Mueller's office learned about the alleged directive after speaking with numerous people from the Trump Organization and seeing company emails, text messages and numerous other documents.

"Just unbelievable", Carlson said in response to the news.

Cohen, the special counsel's office and Cohen all declined to comment on BuzzFeed News' story.

Giuliani decided thank Mueller for "correcting the BuzzFeed false story".

A White House spokesman did not specifically deny the report, but Trump, in a tweet, accused Cohen, who has cooperated with Mueller, of lying.

Trump Says 'No deal' on 'SNL' Game Show Cold Open
The women - and men - holding briefcases actually ended up being members of the House of Representatives and Senate. Alec Baldwin returned to Saturday Night Live as President Trump, in a cold open game of " Deal or No Deal ".

Instead, he said, "I actually wanted to come on to talk about the President of the United States threatening a family..."

In a statement earlier Friday, Peter Mirijanian, a spokesperson for Abbe Lowell, ethics counsel for Ivanka Trump, said the Trump Organization considered projects around the world "and nothing was different or wrong about one that might be in Russian Federation", but distanced the president's eldest daughter from the matter.

Cohen, Trump's longtime lawyer and fixer, pleaded guilty last August to eight charges of campaign finance violations and fraud.

U.S. President Donald Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, created a stir when he was photographed outside his New York City apartment with his arm in a sling and a hospital ID bracelet on his wrist.

Calling the allegations a "counterintelligence concern of the greatest magnitude", Schiff said his committee had already been working to secure witness testimony and documents related to the Moscow Trump Tower deal.

"If this report of Trump suborning false testimony is confirmed, then Trump committed a felony and must resign or be impeached", tweeted Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley.

In December, Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison for those lies and unrelated financial crimes. White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders called the allegation "absolutely ridiculous".

It came two months after Cohen pleaded guilty in a NY court to making "false, fictitious and fraudulent" written testimony to the House and Senate intelligence committees in August 2017 in connection with the Moscow project.

"Mueller shouldn't end his inquiry, but it's about time for him to show Congress his cards before it's too late for us to act", Murphy tweeted.
