Bell Let's Talk having positive impact in C-K

She said it's important for police to respond to mental health situations with a unique approach, and depending on the situation, an approach that doesn't make those in trouble feel threatened.

Kyra Gillert, enrolment services co-ordinator for the Student Success Centre at the U of L, said one of Bell's main points of their campaign is that talking is one of the best ways to reduce barriers for mental health and to reduce the stigma that surrounds it.

The initiative by Bell Canada donates five cents for every interaction with the hashtag, view of their videos on social media, and mention in text conversations to mental health services and support programs.

Aulenback said Carleton's initiatives extend beyond Bell Let's Talk Day to end the stigma surrounding mental health."Whether you are a student, faculty member, or staff member, we are all affected by mental health and as a community, we are here to support each other", he said.

In honour of Bell Let's Talk Day, activities were held all day on Wednesday, the event including prizes, games, Bell Let's Talk swag, a photo booth and T-shirt designing activities, among other activities.

Each registered school is provided with a campus toolkit, said Boylan, which includes resources for teachers and students to help them join the conversation around mental health and take part in the campaign.

One option is addictions and mental health counselling, which is offered through Alberta Health Services, as well as many private counselling clinics.

January 30 is Bell Let's Talk Day and Red Deer Public Schools is filling its social media channels with inspirational messages today in hopes of raising awareness and reducing stigma around mental health.

Officials add, the 2019 Community Fund will provide grants in the range of $5,000 to $25,000 to projects that improve access to mental health care, supports and services for people in Canada.
