The latest weekly flu map from the CDC indicates that Tennessee is experiencing regional activity, but most of the country's flu cases are widespread.

The eight who have so far this flu season range in age from 41 years old to 83 years old.

The East Tennessee region beyond Knox County reports 6.2% of patients with the flu.

But some workplaces have been reporting an unseasonal spate of staff calling in sick with flu-like illnesses, after a relatively mild season last winter. More than 200 people have been hospitalized for the flu. And although a cold can be a nuisance, you usually feel much worse with the flu. Jamie Dukes with the Oklahoma Health Department says hospitalizations are 522 statewide, with 22 fatalities reported since the flu season began in September.

But there was little point in people who missed last year's flu vaccine rushing out to have it now.

"Routine seasonal influenza vaccination is not being recommended at the present time".
