Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist undergoes open heart surgery

The vocal cords of the former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham have been damaged during emergency open heart surgery, his wife has said. He is now recuperating at home and... However, the procedure "caused vocal cord damage, the permanency of which is unclear".

Last year, Buckingham sued Fleetwood Mac after being kicked off the band's new tour.

His wife, Kristen Buckingham, revealed his hospitalization and progress in a post on social media Friday.

"We feel so fortunate that he's alive".

All scheduled gigs have been postponed as Buckingham heals. "He looks forward to recovery and putting this behind him".

The family "thought it important to share what's happening with Lindsey with the hope that inspires someone else to seek preventive care".

Kristen went on to encourage Fleetwood Mac fans to seek preventative care if you have any symptoms or a familial risk of heart disease.

The legendary Fleetwood Mac replaced Buckingham with Kiwi Neil Finn. Buckingham filed a civil suit, which he said was settled out of court late a year ago for undisclosed terms.

His former band mates have publicly expressed good wishes to Buckingham, tweeting: "We are saddened by this news".
