Second Woman Accuses Fairfax of Sexual Assault

A second woman has come forward to accuse Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of rape as Virginia's state Democratic leadership is enveloped in scandal.

"The long and short of it is that Fairfax is the one in trouble and unless he's impeached, he does not have to resign", Sabato said. A public relations firm representing Watson provided The Associated Press with a 2016 email exchange with a female friend and 2017 text exchanges in which Watson said Fairfax had raped her. Watson reportedly told Fairfax about the incident.

"I would like to encourage the media, my supporters, and others to treat both the woman who made this allegation and my family with respect for how painful this situation can be for everyone involved", he wrote. He said the latest accusation, that he had raped a fellow student at Duke University in 2000, was "demonstrably false" and declared he would not step down.

"I have passed two full field background checks by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and run for office in two highly contested elections with nothing like this being raised before", he said. I want to stand here in that truth and restate that my truth, as well as the truth of Dr. Tyson and Ms. Watson, should be fully investigated and thoroughly assessed.

Fairfax vowed to clear his "good name" and noted he has passed Federal Bureau of Investigation background checks and run for office "with nothing like this being raised before".

Sabato says if the lieutenant governor decides to resign, Governor Northam would appoint a substitute to the position.

Fairfax says his sexual encounter with Tyson was consensual. "I am asking that no one rush to judgment and I am asking for there to be space in this moment for due process".

Earlier this week, college professor Vanessa Tyson alleged in a graphic statement that Fairfax forced her to perform oral sex on him during the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

None of that is likely to matter with opposition politicians, who maintain the whole affair smells like obstruction of justice. The list includes Lametti , the prime minister's chief of staff Katie Telford, and his principal secretary Gerald Butts.

The governor also said in the interview that he would take "a harder line" on moving the state's Confederate monuments, which have become lightning rods for racial division, from public property into museums.

Fairfax has forcefully denied both allegations and refused to resign, saying he has "never assaulted anyone". Although the costumes obscure the individuals' identities, the image appears in a spread of photos all depicting Northam. It all started when someone discovered Governor Ralph Northam's medical school yearbook which featured a. questionable picture. Tim Kaine said, "The allegations against him detail atrocious crimes".

As Fox News' Dana Perino noted on air that former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe was calling for Fairfax's "immediate resignation", co-host Juan Williams asked, "How do you navigate these very tricky waters?"

The Democrat defended his vow to stay in office despite widespread calls for his resignation.

That call was echoed by almost every member of Virginia's national congressional delegation, including Rep. Jennifer Wexton. "If I had it to do over I would step back and take a deep breath".

Watson replied: "Justin raped me in college and I don't want to hear anything about him". Like he is smearing Dr. Vanessa Tyson, Mr. Fairfax is now smearing Ms. Watson. "The Lieutenant Governor no longer has our confidence or support".

But Meredith Watson has.
