Delivery of the Model 3 was the company's key priority in the latter half of 2018, as Tesla tried to supply all buyers wanting the full benefit of the $7,500 US tax credit before it was cut in half at year's end.

The EV maker is expected to push up to 3,000 Model 3 vehicles through Belgium's Zeebrugge port every week in the coming months to fulfil high demand from European buyers.

Given the exhaustive price cuts, the starting price of Model 3 resides at $42,900, which is still substantially above the target of $35,000, Tesla head Elon Musk initially promised.

Sharing an itinerary that has him crisscrossing northern Europe, Musk said Saturday he is planning to visit both Tesla's headquarters in Amsterdam and Oslo, to review service in Norway where delays have irked customers, before the day ends.

With the launch of the new battery pack option, Tesla is making several changes to the Model 3's option structure.

The two laid-off employees said delivery targets assigned for North America - made up mostly of USA buyers and market - this quarter would be 55 percent to 60 percent of what the targets were in the last quarter of 2018, leading to a major change in Tesla strategies.

If Tesla does not cut prices soon, it risks losing potential customers - and ones already on its reservation list - to a slew of German and Asian competitors whose electric vehicles will hit the US market this year.
