OnePlus May Showcase Its 5G Phone at Mobile World Congress 2019

The OnePlus 5G handset is expected to debut sometime in May alongside the OnePlus 7.

5G devices to shine at the Mobile World Congress 2019. OnePlus encourages attendees to experience a 5G smartphone prototype at a booth run by Qualcomm at MWC 2019. OnePlus hasn't officially talked about the showcasing of the 5G phone, but the words noted in the media invite reveals hints at it.

OnePlus has also stated that its 5G phone will launch in the first half of 2019. It is fully possible the company may showcase a 5G variant of the OnePlus 6T like how other manufacturers are doing now.

Currently, it's impossible to state the specifications of this upcoming handset, but considering OnePlus close bonds with Qualcomm, it seems reasonable to assume that the Snapdragon 855 will be included in the package alongside the Snapdragon X50 Modem in order to grant 5G network capabilities.

It states: "OnePlus, at Qualcomm's booth (Hall 3 Stand 3E10), invites all to connect and communicate with our community over a 5G network". However, 5G will no doubt roll out quicker in markets such as Europe and North America than in India, and OnePlus likely want to have its devices ready for this well in advance.

While this might not be the finished OnePlus 7, it'll be showing us just what that phone will be capable of doing if it does end up launching with 5G.

OnePlus isn't the only company to demo a 5G prototype phone.
