Delta passengers injured during severe turbulence; Flight makes emergency landing in Nevada

The turbulence was so bad that it caused a flight attendant's drinks cart to flip over in the aisle, dislodging its shelves and contents, according passengers onboard.

The Delta Airlines flight experienced the terrifying turbulence as it was headed to Seattle, Washington, from Santa Ana, California. His posts included several photos and a video which revealed the extent of the mess created by the turbulence in the aircraft cabin.

Cellphone video from one passenger captured the state of the plane, a Compass Airlines flight operating as Delta from John Wayne Airport in Orange County to Seattle-Tacoma Airport, moments before it landed safely in Reno.

Three people were taken to the hospital following the emergency landing.

"One passenger even joked to him, 'Next time, choose club soda, ' which really says a lot about the spirit of the people on the flight", the spokesperson noted of the "impressive way they handled themselves" after the scary encounter.

There were 59 passengers and four crew on board the flight.

"The flight attendant that was doing the service went to the ceiling with the cart", he said.

The National Weather Service had warned earlier Wednesday that a strong winter storm moving into the region could create risky flying conditions with extreme turbulence.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning through 11 p.m. Thursday for most of the Sierra Nevada, including Lake Tahoe, where 2 to 5 feet (61 centimeters to 1.5 meters) of snow is possible in the highest elevations.

Delta isn't the only airline to hit by a severe case of turbulence recently.

Passenger Barbara Belcher tweeted, "Chaotic".
