Disneyland’s Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge theme park to open May 31

Disneyland and Walt Disney World are now developing Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, a massive, immersive experience that will transport guests to the galaxy far, far away.

"On opening day for phase one, guests will be transported to the remote planet of Batuu, full of unique sights, sounds, smells and tastes". Previously the land was not scheduled to open, at least in Florida, until later in the fall of 2019. But it comes with a trade-off: Rise of the Resistance, which Disney describes as "the most ambitious, immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined", won't open until later this year at either park, on a date not specified.

If that footage seems to lean heavily on the Smuggler's Run attraction, which puts visitors in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon for a video game-inspired motion simulator, that's because it will be the only major ride running when Galaxy' Edge opens. The company did not set a reservation requirement for Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. They say details on getting these reservations will come at a later date.

Disneyland Park in California is scheduled to open ahead of schedule on May 31, while Disney World in Florida will open at the end of summer on August 29. The timeline to open the largest lands Disney has ever built was accelerated amid "tremendous demand", Iger told investors on Thursday.

Guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels from May 31 to June 23 will automatically be registered to access Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.

A reservation will not be offered or required to experience Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at the Walt Disney World Resort.

- Star Wars fans, you now have a date for when you can travel to a galaxy far, far away. and it's sooner than expected. Disneyland will get it first, on May 29.

To avoid the huge crowds and extremely long waits that visitors faced when Pandora: The World of Avatar opened at Disney's Animal Kingdom in 2017, Galaxy's Edge will open in two phases.
