Microsoft Skype is now available on the web

But due to the lack of features compared to the actual app, the Web version had little to no success as users did not really make much use of it. However, in a surprise move, Microsoft has just released a brand new update for the Web app.

Microsoft has revamped its Skype calling service on the Web bringing HD video calling, redesigned notifications, a fresh media gallery design, and more.

Do you use Skype as your daily driver? However, with the new update the web app will no longer have support for Chrome OS or Linux.The latest update for the web app will only support Windows 10 and macOS 10.12 on Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers.

The new Skype for Web comes with a HD one-to-one or group video calling with support for call reactions.

The new notifications panel to let you see every time someone has mentioned or quoted you in the same place. Also, the call recording feature is also enabled which let the users to record some important calls for further proofs. An option called the Chat Media Gallery has also been added to the browser version in which users looking for a particular file, links, and photos which were previously shared in a conversation be it a day or a month before, can easily find that particular photo, files etc. This feature, which is already available in the desktop applications, makes it possible to find the content needed without resorting to scrolling back through old chat logs.

While announcing these features, Microsoft has added this into its blog, "In addition, today we are releasing the updated MSI distributable for Skype (version 8) for Windows desktop, which replaces the existing MSI distributable of Skype (version 7) for Windows desktop".
