The messaging app and video service suffered very different fates, however.

We're saying goodbye to Allo on March 12, 2019. If you were actually using it though, you can export messages on your device (it's under Settings, or see Google's put up a support page with detailed instructions).

Google is published a nifty little tutorial to help users save their Allo chat history before the chat service is officially shuttered.

Allo used phone numbers as a login, similar to WhatsApp. Any media attachments you sent - such as pictures - will be downloaded in zip format.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be confirmed as Manchester United manager this month
Alexis Sanchez moved to Manchester United at the start of 2018 but the Chilean is yet to settle down at Old Trafford. Solskjaer's former club Molde are set to be paid a compensation packing of around £8m.

Google never really made the case for why people should move to Allo, and consumers the world over didn't sit around waiting for it. However, it lacked SMS integration, a desktop app, and multi-device support. It didn't technically kill Allo at that time, but it "paused" investment. Google's scattershot approach to messaging apps doesn't inspire confidence, so that's not surprising.

However, you can only delete your copy of the conversation history in Hangout Chat.

To download your chats, Go to Settings and then tap on Chat. Allo can export your conversations as a CSV file. The app will stop working at the end of the day, and your unsaved data will most likely vanish. You had your messages, your Allo and Duo, your Hangouts Chat and Meet, your YouTube chat, Voice, Hangouts Classic and so on. Google+ effectively failed after years of troubled operation, and Google Hangouts+ is far from the most popular video chat service out there.
