YouTube Music and YouTube Premium now available in India

The "made-for-music" app and web player offers official songs, albums, thousands of playlists and artist radio from Indian and global artists, as well as access to YouTube's tremendous catalog of remixes, live performances, covers and music videos that aren't available anywhere else. The iOS app charges Rs 129 per month per user.

India's music streaming market is attracting global giants and YouTube is the latest to enter the competitive sector. "With YouTube Music, we are hoping to bring the best in global and Indian music to millions of fans across India, and give them an immersive music experience, with the magic of music on YouTube". The service starts at Rs 129 a month and includes membership to YouTube Music Premium, ad-free experience, with the ability to play videos in the background and download them offline on YouTube, along with exclusive access to YouTube Originals.

Google today has announced that they have rolled out YouTube Premium and YouTube Music in South Africa.

To listen ad-free, in the background and on-the-go with downloads, you will need to buy a YouTube Music Premium subscription.

Google has a unique position with YouTube Music, since YouTube itself is home to countless music-related videos. So, if you a user of Google Play Music "you'll be able to access all of your purchased music, uploads and playlists in Google Play Music just like always".

YouTube Music and YouTube Premium now available in India

Access to official songs, albums, singles, live performances, covers etc in addition to music videos. There is also a good recommendations engine that starts throwing up music you are likely to like based on what you have already listened to.

Various playlists across various genres, moods, activity, and language, to allow you to discover new songs.

An AI search feature will let you search for songs using descriptions and lyrics, which should make for a very interesting experience. For paid members the Offline Mixtape automatically downloads up to 100 songs you love on your mobile device. Users can find all their downloads, saved music, recently played tracks, subscribed artists and playlists under the "Library" tab and can adjust number of songs to download and more in their download settings. A report from App Annie published earlier this year suggests that YouTube is India's top video streaming app, and another report from Nielsen published in 2018 noted that it's the country's top source for streaming music.

As a bonus, YouTube is also finally launching its original video content platform YouTube Premium in India.

Individual subscriptions are priced at Rs 99 per month while family subscriptions cost Rs 149 per month. India's love for music comes as no surprise for the company, which has seen T-Series, a music label and movie production house from the country, nearly overtake PewDiePie, the biggest YouTuber in terms of subscribers.
