Android Q Dark Mode Arrives In Beta 1: Buggy & All But Broken

Android Q has finally arrived in its initial testing phases via Beta 1 and one of the biggest expected features, a system-wide dark mode, seems to have arrived in an nearly entirely dysfunctional state.

Chrome's Dark Mode does look like the browser's Incognito Mode, which might make things a little confusing when you are using the private mode after having enabled the Dark Mode as there's only the Incognito badge differentiating the two browsing modes.

We have been following the development of an official Dark Mode for the Google Chrome browser for some weeks, and today that new feature is finally available to all on Mac, Windows, and Linux.

The feature is integrated with the dark mode in macOS Mojave so enabling dark mode at an OS level will switch Chrome to a dark theme as well.

As for Chrome 73 on Android, it brings the ability to view content on the Dino page, which means users can browse through suggested articles even when they are offline. However, that said, there is an unofficial work around to get a dark mode of sorts on Windows 10: How To Enable Chrome Dark Mode In Windows 10.

In addition to the wider support for PIP mode, Chrome 73 will also let developers add hardware media key support to web apps. Chrome Lite Pages will be explicitly marked in the address bar and users will have the option to load the original unoptimized version if they want. The number "73" is just the version number and isn't some new browser that Google released. The rollout of Chrome 73 is staged and will soon reach users on the aforementioned platforms. Additionally, automatic picture-in-picture mode optimisation for video in PWAs and the addition of a "Skip Ad" button in Picture-in-Picture window are among the new features that have entered testing with Chrome 73's arrival.

Once done, Chrome will automatically change colors as long as you have the latest version installed. The novelties of this latest release can be found in the downloads, in the shortcuts for the Omnibar as well as in the Data Saver function, which now also works on HTTPS pages.

Allow a few minutes for the browser to download Chrome 73.
