Arsenal became only the second team since the rebranding of the Europa League to progress after losing the first leg of a knockout tie 3-1.

He set up Ainsley Maitland-Niles for the second ten minutes later to put the Gunners ahead on away goals.

The Gunners lost the first match 3-1 as they played most of the game with 10 men.

"The 3-1 loss away put us in a very hard situation, but we knew how to deal with that and we got what we deserved".

After the win, Arsenal is through to the quarterfinals of the Europa League and now sits in fourth place in Premier League standings, just one point behind Tottenham (61) for third.

"Playing under pressure is good, growing up under pressure - with each player playing like a team and feeling the hard moments to give us our best performance", Emery said.

Despite the apparent activation of Israel's Iron Dome air defense system, the military said no rockets were shot down. It said one of the rockets landed in an uninhabited area, and that there were no reports of injuries.

Aubameyang missed two big chances inside a minute to complete his first hat-trick in Arsenal colours, poking wide of the post with just Koubek to beat and then skewing wide of the same post once teed up by Ramsey in front of goal.

Unai Emery has retained nine of the eleven players that featured during Arsenal's Premier League win over Manchester United.

"Today, Inter (Milan) are out, Sevilla are out - a big surprise".

For his side, the focus must always be simple. "There's a long way to go but with performances like that, we can compete".

For their part, Rennes grew into the match a little more following a sluggish start and tested Petr Cech before half time through a long-range strike from Hatem Ben Arfa.
