Four people have been killed and dozens wounded when a pedestrian bridge collapsed near Mumbai's main train station, the latest accident to highlight creaking infrastructure in India's financial capital. Mr Fadnavis was speaking to reporters after visiting some of the injured at St Georges Hospital. Commuters have been advised to take the alternate routes to their destinations. "Senior officers are on spot", Mumbai police had tweeted at 7.46 pm.

The bridge, which was under fix according to multiple Indian media reports, gave way around 7.30 pm (1400 GMT) on Thursday as rush hour commuters made their way into Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.

When contacted, the municipal commissioner and additional municipal commissioner were unavailable for comments.The bridge was constructed by BMC in 1988. As part of the survey, a structural audit of 344 bridges was undertaken.
