Gareth Bale was also named in the starting line-up at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday as Madrid launched their new era under Zidane at home to Celta Vigo in La Liga.

Along with Isco and defender Marcelo, the Costa Rican Navas was one of the main beneficiaries of Zidane's return 10 months after the Frenchman had walked out on the club having won an unprecedented three consecutive Champions League crowns.

"Marcelo has not played much, that is true, but he is a professional and he has been very good in season".

"I do not want to discuss the individual season of Gareth Bale, but in these 11 remaining games I will count on him as I do with everyone, and like the others he is ready to play".

Zidane's first point of call was to call Ramos who was reportedly threatening to leave the club should Jose Mourinho be brought back as manager.

Mike Thalassitis cause of death: Love Island's 'Muggy' Mike dies age 26
Tributes have flooded in for late Love Island star Mike Thalassitis after he was found dead near his hometown on Saturday. Thalassitis was going through a turbulent, public break up with The Only Way Is Essex star Megan McKenna.

It remains to be seen whether Zidane will make a winning start to his second spell in charge.

Marcelo too, who had lost his place to Sergio Reguilon under Solari, showed his attacking prowess against struggling Celta, providing the assist for Bale and sending in six crosses overall.

Zidane's big decision came in goal, where he opted for Keylor Navas over Thibaut Courtois.

In fact, there were just three changes from the starting XI which beat Liverpool in last season's Champions League final, compared to five from last Sunday's win over Real Valladolid, which proved to be Santiago Solari's last game in charge.
