Verstappen was encouraged by his first race in a new era for Red Bull after ending a wait of nearly 11 years for a Honda-powered auto to take a podium finish. "After a promising season opener, we now look ahead to Bahrain".

"A fantastic start to the season with a podium finish at our first Grand Prix with our new power unit partner Honda, who haven't finished in the top three since 2008", said Horner.

Verstappen had started fourth at Albert Park but made up a place on Sebastian Vettel shortly after his pit-stop.

Verstappen's podium was the first for a Honda powered auto since the 2008 British Grand Prix.

"It has been tricky finding a good balance and we are of course not where we want to be in terms of the gap, but we also have to be realistic and happy with this grid position".

Mercedes drivers finished first and second, with Finland's Valtteri Bottas winning the race for his fourth career F1 victory.

"Max has been able to use that to really good effect today".

Cali didn't think Comello was worthy of associating with a woman in his family, the sources added. He is listed as single and a high school graduate.

"It will be tough, I think there were only four over takes past year so it will hard starting where we are".

Gasly admitted Red Bull underestimated the pace they would need in Q1, having missed the cut in his first race with the team.

"The problem with this tyre was as soon as you got within one and a half second they just overheated really quickly, so I had to back off and try to just save my tyres and just keep driving basically because I felt I just couldn't place an attack, he added".

"In general, the auto felt alright with medium and soft tyres but we still need to fully understand the compounds", said Verstappen. "My running was also a little different to the others in terms of preparation and there is definitely some lap time in that. And as soon as I had an opportunity to go for it I went for it, and luckily it paid off".

Speaking to AS newspaper, the Finn said, "Looking at the results of the tests and what Renault have done with the performance of their engine, I think they are in very good shape".

He said it proved people should not read too much into the pre-season testing regime.

"I guess time will tell if we can fight for top spot (on the podium)".
