After the deal was announced, many are criticizing it saying Albies deserves more and that this type of deal is underselling the amount of talent he brings to Atlanta.

An All-Star in 2018, Albies hit.261 with 24 home runs, 74 runs batted in and an OPS of.757 past year.

Following a truncated 2017 rookie season in which he slashed.286/.354/.456 with 6 HRs and 28 RBIs in 57 games, Albies had a breakout sophomore season where he raked.261/.305/.452 with 24 HRs, 36 BBs and 72 RBIs. A year ago he made his first All-Star Game appearance after hitting.261 with 24 home runs, second in the majors among second baseman behind only the Chicago Cubs' Javier Baez.

Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda Identified in Mall of America Incident
Police say he refused to give his name and resisted arrest. "Oh my God, my baby, someone threw him over the edge'". Police learned at that time he had an existing trespass notice prohibiting him from the Mall until July of 2016.

Albies, 22, was set to become arbitration eligible in 2021 and a free agent in 2024. Atlanta has a $7 million option for 2026 with a $4 million buyout, and if that is exercised, the Braves have a $7 million option for 2027 with no buyout. So far in 2019, Albies is off to an incredibly hot start.

But what may be lost by many fans is why people inside the game reacted so strongly to Albies' contract. Acuna and Albies are just two of many building blocks for this young team. It will keep Albies under club control past his age-30 season, a key for teams these days. "And I took it because I want my family to be safe". He is hitting.364 with a home run, two RBIs and two stolen bases through 11 games this season for Atlanta.

From a character standpoint, it's more than commendable that Albies chose to forgo a chance at a mammoth contract just to play with his closest friend and help his team for the long haul.
