Molinari, the first Italian to win a major with his victory at last year's British Open, will start in pole position to claim a Green Jacket to go along with his Claret Jug.

Tiger Woods has emerged triumphant at Augusta to win the US Masters for the fifth time, capping an incredible comeback from back problems and scandals that had dogged his career in recent years.

"I was just trying to plod my way around all day".

The two major champions will be accompanied by Tony Finau, who matched Woods's 11-under total with a dazzling eight-under 64 that featured a Masters-record equaling front nine of six-under 30. And when I made the putt I don't know what I did but I screamed.

"I'm a little hoarse from yelling", Woods said after the round.

And the Chelsea FC defender is hoping for a repeat when the two teams meet at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. He's a wonderful footballer and needs time so we have to make sure he is 100% fit.

Woods shot a final round of two under par 70 to finish at 13 under, one stroke clear of Dustin Johnson, Xander Schauffele and Brooks Koepka. "My dad was here in 1997 and now I'm the dad with two kids there".

Life has a nasty habit of intruding and scuppering even the best laid plans, and life had certainly intervened in its inimitable way with Tiger Woods.

He ended last season by winning the Tour Championship and showed signs of a breakthrough at the majors by being a title contender at last year's The Open Championship, where he led in the final round, and PGA Championship, where he finished runner-up.

Woods held a share of the lead for stretches during the final round but didn't take the outright lead until a birdie at the 15th hole.

All those moments built to Sunday, when Woods was once again his old familiar dominating self.
