'Trivago' pitchman passed out in a car in traffic

The actor who has become something of a sex symbol as the scruffy-faced, somewhat rumpled star of ads for the travel booking site Trivago has been arrested in Texas on a misdemeanour driving while intoxicated charge.

He attended Robert E Lee High School in Houston and went on to NY to study at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and pursue a career in acting before moving to Berlin, where's he's lived for the last 14 years, according to Chron.

Williams was released on bond and will appear in court April 17.

After police found the impaired Williams, he failed a field sobriety test and was taken to the nearby Harris County Jail.

KHOU-TV reports that Williams has been ordered to undergo a mental health assessment.

He's acted in a number of minor roles over the past three decades on shows like The Sopranos, Law & Order, Valkyrie and Labyrinth of Lies. He's also a country musician. Trivago was the first hotel search engine in Germany and is now owned by the Expedia Group.
